If you are not comfortable with working on the car then just follow the BMW bleeding directions - although I've found them inadequate for the occasional bimmer that had a stubborn air lock. I have no issues with running one of these with the cap off up to about 90C which the t-stat is already starting to open. Common areas for leaks include radiator hoses, the water pump, heater core, and the radiator itself. Coolant leak: A leak in the coolant system can cause the coolant level to drop rapidly, triggering the warning light. the coolant level was checked and is fine, however it has continued to come on even after being parked in the garage. This could be caused by a leak in the cooling system or simply by normal evaporation over time. I just plugged in a new coolant level sensor cause I thought that might be the issue, but nope. The coolant temp reads out fine, and as far as I can see the fluid level is good too. it usually occurs when it is colder and the dealer claims it is because coolant shrinks when it is colder. The low coolant warning keeps popping up on my 86. Use common sense - if the coolant is scalding hot - don't open the ET cap - use the bleed screw. the coolant warning light keeps coming on in my 05 jetta wagon. You want the t-stat to at least partially open during bleeding to ensure you have full circulation - also check that heat is coming in the cabin - cause if you are not getting any heat then you might have a jammed heater valve. They risk allowing coolant to leak and trickle under the car. Numerous gaskets on the water pump have the potential to wear out or sustain damage over time. Failing Pump When the dashboard coolant light VW comes on, it may occasionally signify a more significant issue, like a failing coolant pump. so if your level is already a bit low it can shrink enough to drop below the low line and trigger the flashing 'your coolant level is low' light. The only other thing that I can think of is make sure that the repair facility used a vw thermostat and a vw coolant temp sensor. When the engine is revved the coolant will evacuate the expansion tank triggering the low level light - when you shut the car off and go to check the coolant level the vaccuum fills the ET so the level looks ok. The software update may not fix the coolant problem in your mind but may widen the parameters that the ecm is looking for, thus not having the check engine light come on. Read the post above yours - you likely have an air bubble in your coolant.
